The Asia-Pacific is home to diverse languages, cultures, communities, and ways of learning. APALCE Voices is an online platform where students, educators, researchers, and community members share thoughtful stories and perspectives from across the region.
Through articles, interviews, reviews, reflections, and field reports, contributors learn to observe carefully, ask meaningful questions, verify information, and communicate responsibly with an international audience.

About APALCE Voices
APALCE Voices is an initiative of the Asia-Pacific Association of Language, Culture and Education (APALCE).
We publish accessible and engaging writing about:
- Languages and communication
- Culture and community
- Schools and education
- Books, media, and the arts
- Travel and everyday life
- Issues affecting children and young people
- Experiences and perspectives from across the Asia-Pacific
A primary school student might introduce a local tradition. A university student may reflect on campus life. A teacher might share a classroom experience, while a researcher may explain an educational issue for a general audience.
Our purpose is not simply to publish polished English. We aim to help contributors develop curiosity, accuracy, responsibility, and respect for diverse readers through the process of writing and revision.

Who May Submit?
APALCE membership is available only to individuals who have reached the legal age of majority under the law applicable to them. Minors may not become APALCE members.
The following contributors may submit manuscripts to APALCE Voices:
- Adult APALCE members submitting their own original work
- Minor children whose manuscripts are submitted by an adult APALCE member acting as their parent or legal guardian
- Participants in an APALCE writing programme, where submission is made through the approved adult representative
All manuscripts are assessed according to the same editorial, quality, authorship, and safeguarding standards.
APALCE membership provides an opportunity to submit a manuscript. It does not guarantee editorial acceptance or publication.
Submissions by Minor Contributors
An adult APALCE member may submit an original English manuscript written by a minor child for whom the member is the parent or legal guardian.
The child participates solely as the contributor and author of the manuscript and does not acquire APALCE membership. Copyright remains with the minor author.
The submitting adult member acts as the responsible representative and must:
- Confirm that they have the legal authority to act for the minor
- Confirm that the manuscript was written in English by the minor
- Confirm that the minor understands and agrees to the submission
- Provide the permissions required for editorial review, revision, copyediting, online publication, archiving, and agreed promotional use
- Select what personal information, if any, may appear with the published article
- Communicate with the APALCE Voices editorial team on behalf of the minor
All communications concerning a minor contributor will be conducted through the submitting adult member. APALCE does not require a minor to create a membership account or provide a personal email address.
Submission by an adult member on behalf of a minor does not guarantee publication.
Publication Language
All articles must be written in English
APALCE Voices accepts only original articles written in English by the named contributor.
Manuscripts first written in Korean or another language and subsequently translated into English are not accepted. Editors do not translate complete manuscripts or write articles on behalf of contributors.
Every manuscript must reflect the contributor’s own:
- Ideas and opinions
- Observations and experiences
- Research and reading
- Interviews and reporting
- English writing and revision
Reasonable use of dictionaries, reference materials, spelling tools, and limited language-support tools may be permitted under the submission guidelines. Such support must not replace the contributor’s own thinking or writing.
How It Works
1. Choose a Story
Select a focused topic related to language, culture, education, or everyday life in the Asia-Pacific.
2. Write in English
Prepare an original article in English. The ideas, observations, research, interviews, and writing must be the contributor’s own.
3. Submit the Manuscript
Adult members may submit their own work. A manuscript written by a minor must be submitted by an adult APALCE member who is the minor’s parent or legal guardian.
4. Editorial Review
Editors assess the manuscript’s relevance, originality, accuracy, clarity, authorship, safety, and suitability for APALCE Voices.
5. Revise
The contributor reviews the editorial comments and revises the manuscript. For a minor contributor, communication and file exchange are conducted through the submitting adult member.
6. Final Approval
The contributor and, where applicable, the parent or legal guardian review and approve the final version and the agreed author information.
7. Publish and Share
Accepted articles are published on the APALCE website. Selected articles may also be featured in the APALCE Voices newsletter or other APALCE communications, subject to the relevant permissions.
Submission does not guarantee publication. Every manuscript must meet the APALCE Voices editorial and safeguarding standards.
Two Ways to Participate
1. Submit an Article
Eligible APALCE members may submit original English articles for editorial consideration.
An adult member who is the parent or legal guardian of a minor may also submit an original English article written by that child.
There is no submission or publication fee. Editorial support for independently submitted manuscripts is limited, and publication is determined solely by the quality and suitability of the manuscript.

2. Join the APALCE Youth Writing & Reporting Lab
Young contributors who would benefit from structured guidance may apply to the optional APALCE Youth Writing & Reporting Lab through a parent or legal guardian.
The programme provides:
- English writing workshops
- Topic development
- Reporting and interview guidance
- Guidance on structure and revision
- Individual editorial feedback
- Education in responsible and ethical communication
Participants must develop and write their own articles in English. Editors and instructors do not write or translate articles for participants.
Programme fees cover education, workshops, and editorial support—not publication. Participation in the Lab does not guarantee that a manuscript will be accepted or published.

English Writing and Editorial Support
All articles submitted to APALCE Voices must be written in English by the named contributor.
Editors may provide:
- Basic correction of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Suggestions on structure, clarity, and expression
- Requests for evidence or factual clarification
- Guidance on revising a manuscript
- Age-appropriate feedback for young contributors
Editorial support is intended to help contributors improve their own writing. Editors do not:
- Write an article on behalf of a contributor
- Translate a complete manuscript written in another language
- Invent experiences, quotations, interviews, or sources
- Replace the contributor’s ideas or individual voice
- Guarantee publication after revision
The contributor remains responsible for the article’s ideas, observations, interviews, sources, and factual claims and must review and approve the final version.
Our Editorial Commitments
Authentic Authorship
Every article must reflect the named contributor’s own ideas, observations, research, and English writing.
Accuracy and Responsible Reporting
Important factual claims must be checked against reliable sources. Interviews and quotations must not be invented, distorted, or presented misleadingly.
Transparent Editing
Substantial editorial or technological assistance must be disclosed when required under the submission guidelines.
Respectful Communication
Articles must respect cultural, linguistic, religious, social, and individual differences.
Safe Participation
The privacy, dignity, and safety of minor contributors and interviewees take priority over publication.
Editorial Independence
Membership, programme participation, donations, sponsorship, or any other payment never guarantees publication.
Contributor Approval
Contributors must have an opportunity to review the final edited article before publication. For a minor contributor, the parent or legal guardian must also provide the required approval.
Privacy and Safeguarding
APALCE Voices collects only the information reasonably necessary to review and publish a manuscript.
For a minor contributor, the parent or legal guardian may choose the approved form of the contributor’s published name, such as:
- Full name
- English name
- Given name only
- Initials
- An approved pen name
The exact name of a minor contributor’s school will not normally be published. Photographs, videos, school information, social media promotion, and other identifying details require separate review and consent.
APALCE may withhold or remove information when necessary to protect a contributor’s privacy, dignity, or safety.
Use of Generative AI
Generative AI may be used only within the limits stated in the APALCE Voices submission guidelines.
AI must not replace the contributor’s own observation, thinking, research, interviewing, or English writing. Contributors must not submit an AI-generated article as their own work.
Any significant AI assistance must be disclosed. APALCE may request drafts, notes, sources, or an explanation of the writing process when authorship requires clarification.
A manuscript may be rejected or removed if its authorship has been misrepresented.
Share Your Story
Do you have a story about language, culture, education, school, books, people, or everyday life in the Asia-Pacific?
We welcome original English articles that are thoughtful, accurate, respectful, and accessible to a broad international audience.
Recommended Length
- Primary school contributors: 150–250 words
- Middle school contributors: 250–400 words
- High school contributors: 400–600 words
- University students and adults: 600–1,000 words
These ranges are recommendations rather than automatic publication criteria. Editors may request a shorter or longer manuscript depending on the topic and article type.
